Summer In Sandpoint, Idaho
There’s a rhythm to life in Sandpoint that shifts as we head into summer—something about the longer days and warm nights that invites you to stay outside a little longer, breathe a little deeper, and maybe even let the chores wait just a little bit.
But let’s be honest: there’s always something to do this time of year. The grass doesn’t stop growing just because it’s sunny, and the chickens certainly don’t stop clucking. Between mowing the lawn, weeding the garden, and convincing the kids to help out (wishful thinking?), summer’s full of good, old-fashioned outdoor work.
And yet, that’s part of what makes it feel so right here.
Once the yard is (mostly) under control, the real fun begins. Kids are spilling out of school with skinned knees, messy hair, and big plans for backyard forts and sprinkler marathons. The bikes come out of the garage. Mud gets tracked inside (Sorry, Mom!). And the days start to feel a little more like adventure than routine.
A quick ride through town and you’ll see Sandpoint wake up to the season: paddleboards dotting the lake, kayakers slicing through calm morning water, and families walking down to Panhandle Cone & Coffee for an afternoon scoop (or two). It’s hard to beat a waffle cone after a day on the water.
Up on Schweitzer Mountain, the summer scene is a whole different world. Wildflowers bloom along hiking trails. Lift-accessed biking is in full swing. And if you time it right, there’s often live music or a mountain sunset that makes the ride up unforgettable.
And then there’s fishing—because no Sandpoint summer is complete without it. Whether it’s casting off the dock at dusk or heading out on the boat with a couple of buddies, there’s something about those golden-hour evenings that just hits different. The quiet. The stories. The slow tug on the line. It’s not always about the catch—but when you do land one, even better.
We’ll be out there—between chicken feedings and lake dips, balancing chores with memory-making, and trying not to burn the burgers while the kids dig holes in the backyard.
Here’s to summer in Sandpoint: a little wild, a little dusty, and completely worth every second.
